Worried about your first day? Let the Jonas Brothers be your guide…
Rule 1: Don’t Try Too Hard
Okay, so he just transferred here from France, has cheekbones TDF and he dresses better than all the guys at your school put together. But before you start busting out your cutest outfits and start tossing off ‘bonjours’ in his direction, take a chill pill. You’ve got a whole year of school ahead of you, and you don’t want to blow you chance by being too eager. Or else, hilarity may ensue [not the good kind].
Joe says: “Take it easy with a school crush. When I was in school, I tried to impress this girl by jumping this ledge with a scooter. I caught the edge of the ledge and totally fell in front of her. I never talked to her again. So take it slow.”
Rule 2: Rock Your Style
The first day back is a great time to rock your own unique style. Even if you have to wear a uniform, you can express yourself with a sweet hairdo, some cool jewellery, a hot bag – the options are endless! Not only can you show the world what you’re really about, but you can connect easier with likeminded souls who share your style. Who knows, maybe you’ll start a band with them…
Joe says: “Me and Kevin [used to] rock these jean jackets. We took a picture of ourselves in those jackets and decided we wanted to start a band. We were like, ‘Dude we’ve got to start a band –these jackets are so cool.'”
Rule 3: Take It Easy
The first day back is a crazy rollercoaster. Don’t think you have to do it all. There’s no way you can scope the cutest new guys, organise a hot girl gang, suss the best place for lunch and work out where your classrooms are! You’re got the whole year to settle in. Just make sure you get to roll call on time – the rest will sort itself out in due.
Kevin says: “It’s the first day, so don’t get overwhelmed with everything that’s going on. I never remember the first day of school. Everything’s happening so quickly. Just take it easy.”
Rule 4: Live In The Now!
We know what you’re thinking: some things about school can suck. There might be mean girls to contend with, subjects you hate, dud teachers, and homework, homework, homework for the next year… Okay stop! It’s time to stop worrying about what might happen and start enjoying what actually is happening. A new school year also means crushes, parties, and oh yeah, subjects you actually enjoy. Live in the now, yo!
Nick says: “Don’t think about the fact you have nine months left!”
