Spring Clean Your Love Life!

Shake off the shackles of a drab winter of discontent. Spring has sprung, and that means it’s time to give your luv life a buff ‘n’ polish!

Why Spring Clean?

Winter gave us a great excuse to rock coloured leggings every day, but the grey days may have taken their toll on your mindset. It’s time to bring on a fresh and flirty ‘tude to match the change of season. And what better place to start with than your love life! You don’t need a complete overhaul – a quick spring clean will get you good to go!

Ladies, start your cleaning….

# 1: The end product is an important part of any clean (it’s also the most fun!), so let’s start there. Write a short statement about the kind of guy you want to meet. You can focus on anything you like, but his personality is probably gonna be more important than looks – there’s not much point in dating a six-foot Adonis if he’s as dumb as a doorpost. Is he funny? Sensitive? Sweet as apple pie or a little on the dark side? The clearer you can be about what you want, the closer you’ll get to landing him. If you’re seeing someone, you can work on creating a spring clean statement about how you’d like the relationship to evolve.

# 2: Phone a friend. Ask your BFF about your ‘self trash talk’ – ways you commonly put yourself down, often unconsciously. It can be anything from a complaint about a body part, or a belief you’re not confident/ smart/ talented (etc) enough. Listen without judgment to what she says, then take some quiet time to reflect on this. Is this kind of talk kind and respectful towards you? If not, focus on banishing these words and thoughts. Your self-perception is something you can create, so you may as well keep it clean!

Out With The Old:

Needing a boyfriend

Pix of your ex sticky-taped to your mirror

That dumb unrequited crush that causes you nothing but pain

“I can’t…”

Pete Wentz*

In With The New

Wanting one, but being peachy on your own

Pix of you and the girls on a rad night out

That mysterious new kid who no one’s figured out yet…

“I can if I work hard enough!”

How To Dress For A Spring Fling!

Yup, it’s time to spring clean your wardrobe! Make a call on the good, the bad and the ugly!

Separate everything you have into a yes, no and maybe pile. Your ‘nos’ go straight into a garbage bag for charity. Your aim is to get at least 50% of your ‘maybes’ in there too. Only keep pieces you’ve worn at least twice in the last year, that fit properly and make you feel great. All party dresses must be comfortable, as well as hot. Try planning one new combination to welcome in the new you for Spring. For example, try matching a light winter scarf with a summery denim mini or putting tights and flats under a dress you usually wear with boots. Be creative!

Tips!

  • Call in the cavalry: get some fashion-forward friends in on your clean, Sex and the City style!
  • Do your clean when you’re feeling energetic and ruthless, NOT nostalgic or indecisive.

How to put a spring in your step for next-to-nothing!

* A home mani or pedi with colours that pop

* A run along the beach

* Adding a bright red ribbon to your ponytail

* Investing in some heart-shaped shades… too cute!

About Georgia

I'm a young adult novelist with a weakness for hot nerds and cheese platters, not necessarily in that order. I am currently working on my third novel. I'm pretty excited about having just turned 30 because it means I can justify spending a lot of time thinking about homewares.
